Gamification

Gamification is the use of game elements in non-game contexts. The game elements are mainly used to increase the motivation of the users towards the gamified area. Considering this, gamification can be used to increase the motivation of education as well as self-learning.

For this reason gamification distinguishes itself from "serious games" by using only game elements. Serious games are full-blown games which have an additional educational character.

I researched the education of capacity for teamwork using gamification in my master thesis. For that matter it was important to look for an e-learning application which allows the learners to solve tasks as a group. The gamification of this application should increase the motivation of the groups for a more dedicated approach towards the group tasks. Caused by the additional motivation, the groups should work together more often. Finally, more teamwork leads to results in the education of capacity for teamwork.
